Howitzers of Heaven
"Prayer is the conduit through which power from heaven is brought to earth." - Ole Hallesby
Someone once said, “Prayer is the breath of the soul." Intercessory prayer can be exhausting but should never be exhaustive. Praying without ceasing is aerobic exercise, empowered by the Holy Spirit - strengthening and fortifying our faith by means of a humble heart.
"Prayer and helplessness are inseparable. Only he who is helpless can truly pray. Your helplessness is your best prayer." - Ole Hallesby
When our hearts break for the things that break the heart of God, the knee bends and the head bows in intercession; the howitzers of heaven begin to fire and all the earth shakes beneath the thunder!
Heaven Unleashed
"Now when all the people were baptized, and when Jesus also had been baptized and was praying, the heavens were opened..." - Luke 3:21
"Pray then like this: 'Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.'" - Matthew 6:9-10
Fear of Holy Prayer
Catholic Mary, Queen of Scots, is reputed to have said, “I fear the prayers of John Knox more than all the assembled armies of Europe.”
“Preface all that you do and design with prayer (Phil. 4:6). Do not involve yourself in anything for which you dare not pray God's blessing. If you dare not pray, you dare not engage! If you cannot send your prayers before it, you may be certain that shame and guilt will follow after it.” - John Flavel (Triumphing Over Sinful Fear)
Praying Church
"He said to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer..." - Matthew 21:13
"for my house shall be called a house of prayer for all peoples.” - Isaiah 56:7b
Praying for Others
"Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working." - James 5:16
Intercessory Prayer:
"Quite simply, intercessory prayer is the act of praying on behalf of others... The following is only a partial list of those for whom we are to offer intercessory prayers: all in authority (1 Timothy 2:2); ministers (Philippians 1:19); Jerusalem (Psalm 122:6); friends (Job 42:8); fellow countrymen (Romans 10:1); the sick (James 5:14); enemies (Jeremiah 29:7); those who persecute us (Matthew 5:44); those who forsake us (2 Timothy 4:16); and all men (1 Timothy 2:1)... God calls all Christians to be intercessors. It is God’s desire that every believer be active in intercessory prayer." (Got Questions - Intercessory Prayer)
"Praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints..." - Ephesians 6:18
"First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people... " - 1 Timothy 2:1
"Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us." - Romans 8:34
In conclusion… Jesus prayed on earth as He is now interceding in heaven... Perhaps it would be a good idea to follow His example?
Who knows what stronghold the Howitzers of Heaven will demolish.
Who knows what blessings will be be unleashed?
.... If we but pray.
"Pray without ceasing..." - 1 Thessalonians 5:17
