This Christmas, the best thing you and I can do is pause, reflect, and reorient ourselves around the central figure of history and total reality, Jesus Christ. Mary, mangers, magi, and majesty mark the most significant birth ever.
In the fullness of time, the world witnessed the silent invasion of its Creator. The incarnation marks the in-breaking rule and reign of Christ into human events. God incarnate - breathing the air He created, walking on the earth He fashioned, dwelling among the people He made.
The prophets of old foresaw it, "Prepare the way for The Way, the Christ will cometh in the silent night under a lonely star!"
The virgin beheld it and treasured it in her heart, "My heart magnifies the Lord!"
The angels announced it, "Behold, the Savior is born!"
The shepherds heard it, "We must go and see this magnificent thing the heavenly hosts have proclaimed!"
Imagine, His first cry, His first gasp of earthly air! His human eyes open to see the face of His mother. The chill of the night air as the light came into the world on a dark night.
Before the foundations of the world, there was a cross and a tomb... Imagine, the chill of death. His human eyes close after seeing the face of His mother. His last gasp of earthly air, His last cry on a dark day.
Why?
Without Christmas, there would be no calvary.
Without the proclamation of Christ's birth, there would be no proclamation of "He is Risen!"
Without the reality of Jesus Christ, you and I would be dead in our sins, and without hope or God in this world.
A payment was made so those far from God could come near and walk with Him.
The foundation of peace for every human must begin with making peace with God through Christ - The Prince of Peace.
The light came into the world.
A child was born to man.
A son was given by God.
The Light and His Church will prevail.
"The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shone... For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." - Isaiah 9:2,6
"The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it."
- John 1:5
Have you cried out to the Lord? Have you confessed your sin, repented, and trusted in Christ’s forgiveness and redemption? Then, today is the day of your Salvation! Salvation is just the beginning. Welcome to the Kingdom! Merry Christmas.
